VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Chris Taylor is a dedicated and passionate volunteer who has made significant contributions to the parks and recreation community. As a member of the Tree Board, he has played a vital role in establishing and certifying the Moss-Wright Park Arboretum through the state of Tennessee, demonstrating his expertise in horticulture and his commitment to enhancing the natural beauty of the community.
Mr. Taylor served as the President of the Sumner County Master Gardeners for nearly 10 years and has been instrumental in developing and maintaining two Monarch Butterfly Waystations inside Moss-Wright Park at the Bowen House and Mansker’s Station historic sites in Goodlettsville.
Apart from his leadership role, he generously volunteered his time for several years leading weeklong Jr. Master Gardener’s Camps at Mansker’s Station and the Bowen House. The camps were aimed for children aged eight and above and provided them with hands-on experience to learn how to plant and grow various vegetables during the camps.
Mr. Taylor’s dedication to service extends beyond this, however. He is a passionate advocate for pickleball, a sport that has recently seen exponential growth across the United States. With his enthusiasm for the game and his love for his community, he has helped make pickleball the fastest-growing sport not only in Goodlettsville but throughout Middle Tennessee.
Mr. Taylor played a crucial role as a volunteer in planning and executing the renovation of Brooks Park. He was instrumental in ensuring that the public’s vision was realized in the playground design and also served as a team leader on the day of the build.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Chris Taylor was named 2022 Volunteer of the Year through the VIP Awards Program. Volunteers are an integral part of the services that the City of Goodlettsville provides. Through opportunities such as coaching, serving on the Tree Board, participating in special event planning, and enhancing park facilities, volunteers like Chris Taylor embody the spirit of kindness and generosity that exemplify the GOOD in Goodlettsville. •
